Charcoal

Are you looking for a partner to share the outdoors with you? Charcoal is your boy! He loves being outside, camping and long walks, especially if he can have some time off leash to run! Charcoal is nervous meeting new people, but once he knows you, you are his new best friend. When walking he wants to meet and play with most dogs and gets excited which he is working on. He would do great with another dog in the family. Charcoal is a big dufus who can sometimes forget just how big he is and he would not want to mow down your little ones, so a home with adults or older kids might be best.

When he was rescued at approximately 3 months old he had distemper which he fully recovered from with no lingering issues. Due to the illness he was quarantined and didn't start getting out for walks and meeting people until he was around 5 months old so he is unsure of new people. He is learning that new people will not hurt him and his circle of human friends is slowly increasing.

Charcoal will need a home that has experience with fearful dogs. As Charcoal is very nervous meeting new people, he will require potential adopters to be patient and accepting that he will need several visits before he trusts and feels comfortable with potential adopters and transitioning to his new home. He is a sweet boy and with the right family and some additional training he will make a great family addition

Gemma.jpg

Gemma

What can we say about Gemma? First off, she absolutely adores any and all attention. She thinks the world of her people and loves to sit on their laps and shower them with kisses. She is the perfect lap dog minus her size! Please note she is still working on losing her COVID weight (aren’t we all).

Gemma is calm, loving and well-mannered in the house. She will happily sit and shake-a-paw if you have a tasty snack (typical lab). Due to her background of being force-bred, she benefits from a calm environment where she can relax and be herself. Sometimes the outside world can be scary! She is very vocal in her everyday life whether that is warning a dog off or snoring the nights away. Her first instinct when seeing a dog is to growl. She has been participating in Dogwit’s reactivity class and has shown tons of improvement! She has played well with other dogs when introduced properly and is not nearly as reactive as she used to be. Due to her nature, she would benefit from an empathetic and confident dog walker. Her strong reactions come from her fear that a dog may attack her, but she is learning to trust again. As we all know, building trust a second time takes time. Putting ourselves in her shoes and understanding why she is afraid is the key to Gemma’s success. Pause4Change is dedicated to helping Gemma’s new family understand what is a trigger to her and why it is happening. We will be with you every step of the way.

Gemma got her name because she really is a diamond in the ruff. Her calm and gentle temperament brighten every room. If you know anything about diamonds you're familiar with the 4 C's. We like to think Gemma is a cut above the rest as she is calm, courteous, cute and cuddly.

ADOPTION PENDING

Hi!  I’m Beatrix, or as my foster mom calls me, “Little B”.

Although curious, I prefer to sit back and assess new situations and can be a little timid at first. I am working on building my confidence and my foster mom says I get more self-assured every day. The more comfortable I get, the more I want to explore!

I prefer to be close to my foster mom and I make great company when she’s working from home; I curl up on a blanket or bed beside her and sleep.  I am working on my alone time – I don’t care for being confined, especially in an xpen but a kennel is okay. I express my displeasure initially, but quiet down, especially if there is music!  I find it relaxing…

I love to play with my stuffies and toys; I enjoy the challenge of puzzles, the snuffle mat and treat balls. I am beginning to master a game called fetch and am proud of myself when I bring the toy back. I have two foster sisters, who were pretty intimidating at first because they are so much bigger than me, but now, I crawl all over them, play tug (they let me win most of the time) and we all chase each other around the backyard. I tattle on them when they take my toy (typical little sister stuff), or bark at them when I want them to play with me.

I am working at doing my business outside and more often than not will go sit by the door, asking to go out. I am learning my basic commands and can “sit”, “come”, “lay down” and my foster mom is teaching me more, or trying to… she tells me to ‘stay’ and then walks away from me…. What’s up with that??

If you’re looking for a forever friend who is loyal, sweet, sassy and cuddly who loves to play, I’m your girl!

Maggie

Looking for a new bestfriend? Maggie is your girl! Maggie had a rough start to life but that hasn’t seemed to have any effect on her silly and friendly personality. She walks very well on leash and loves to be around her people. She can be frightful of new dogs and looks to you for comfort but is not at all reactive - she just needs a bit of encouragement and she warms up very quickly.
She will need an active home as she gets very restless when she’s bored. She loves puzzle games, lick matts, and interactive treat balls. She is very unsure about fetch but she loves to chase her foster sister while she plays. We are still working on potty training-she is uncomfortable going to the washroom on a leash at the moment but we are seeing improvements everyday. She loves to make her people happy so she is eager to learn.
She loooves to cuddle. Both humans and dogs. She even brings her kong or bone over to her foster sister to cuddle up (sometimes on top of her) while she chews.
Maggie is very quiet and has only barked a handful of times since I got her- she’s good with cats and children but has not met any infant children yet but I’m confident she would do well.
She does need someone who is patient and willing to take her to training classes as she is very new to hearing basic commands. Everyday she is getting better and better as she adjusts to being in a home.
Also, have you seen her eyes!?! She is a gorgeous pup!

Ciara

Hello my name is Ciara, that is right, like the 2000's Diva. I personally believe I sing just like her and I am not afraid to let you hear it! I am house trained but sometimes I get confused in new places and may have an accident at first.

I am a professional at sit, down, shake a paw, high five, roll over and spin. I will show you my tricks, if you give me a treat. What can I say, I am a people pleaser. I love to be around my foster mom, I follow her around all day.

I also love wrestling with my foster brother, stealing his toys, playing tug and chasing him in the backyard. My foster mom makes me sleep in a kennel at night, which is fine, when I am tired, but when I am ready to get up, you will hear from me!

I have met the small humans and I love to give them kisses. I have also met cats, but I guess they do not like to be chased. I would love my furever home to have another sibling to play with, lots of toys, a soft bed and a backyard.

Ireland

I’m Ireland and I’m the cutest little bundle of trouble you’ll ever meet!  My hobbies include posing like a teddy bear, ripping up paper and cardboard, chewing on anything I can find, giving my foster family kisses and snuggles, grabbing random items I find lying on the floor and galloping victoriously across the house with said item, and pulling ornaments off the Christmas tree.  I really love playing outside in the snow and my favorite snow toy is an empty plastic milk jug.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet a number of new people lately and I’m super happy and excited to meet everyone!  I currently live with two kids aged 4 and 10 so I’m getting used to the sounds and commotion that come with that.  I’m a little over-enthusiastic with the 4 year old though (I think he’s a puppy like me) so any younger kids in my new home should be comfortable with exuberant pups.
Crates are ok – I choose to go in mine occasionally for short naps, but I don’t like the door being closed so my foster family is working on that.  There are other nooks and crannies in my foster home that I prefer to take my naps in.  Both my foster parents work from home so I haven’t had to spend much time on my own yet.
I’m working hard on house training and get it right most of the time.  My foster mom is quite impressed because I’ve started to consolidate most No. 2s in the side yard… with no prompting on her part. Recently I’ve started sleeping through the night without waking anyone up for a middle-of-the-night potty break.
My first car ride was not a fun experience at all and I experienced some car sickness but my foster family is getting me re-acquainted with how fun car rides can be and I’m doing really well with that.  I’m very food motivated so it’s easy to teach me new things.
The sound of my own voice is quite amazing to me and I love to experiment with it!  My foster mom suspects I’m going to be a bold, confident dog when I grow up.  Could I be the pup you’ve been looking for?  I’d love to meet you and see if we are a match made in heaven!

100% guaranteed - my eyes tell the story.  Just one look and you will know how cute I am!  And my pouty eyes suit my personality as I am so darn sweet and will melt your heart!  I am pretty laid back in the house but do love a game of chase with my buddies.  Not only am I cute, I am so darn smart.  Well at least I think so.  Show me a treat and I will show you have fast I can sit.  Down – well not as quick but I am starting to figure it out.  But I did tell you I was smart, as I let my sister do the ‘down’ for both of us and we both get a treat.  Told you I was smart!  I also know shake a paw and can spin (well sometimes as I do have better things to do).
I am starting to hang out in my crate all by myself.  After being with 9 siblings this alone time isn’t so bad!   I am still working on potty training but if you tell me to go the door, I know to go outside to go potty.  I love meeting people and playing with other dogs.  My mom says I will be a great hiker as I love the outdoors and love to explore and climb.
As I am very special, so my foster mom said I get to pick my family.  Yahoo!   Do you think you will be a perfect family for me?  If so, fill out an application so I can meet you.

Aspen.jpg

Aspen

Hi!  My name is Aspen or AJ for short. In my foster home, it can get pretty confusing, as my foster sister has the same name, so when we are all together as a pack, my foster mom calls me AJ but when it is just the two of us, she calls me Aspen.
My foster mom says I am so, so handsome and a perfect combination of sweet and ‘saucy’. I am comfortable having down time, whether it is playing with toys by myself, time cuddled up with one of my foster sisters, or snuggled in with my foster mom.
According to my foster family I am a bit cheeky… I honestly don’t think it’s a bad thing if I voice my opinion on things - I figure I need to stand up for myself as my foster sisters are so much bigger and it is so easy for them to take my toys. So, when they do, I chase them around the house ‘telling’ them to give them back.
I play hard with my foster sisters, but when they have had enough, I am more than willing to go to the toy box, turn it over and find a toy to play with by myself. I am also an excellent helper when my foster mom is sweeping the floor!  I love to chase the broom and try to ride it around the house.
I can be a little uncoordinated, but if you saw the size of my paws compared to the rest of me, you wouldn’t be surprised. I am pretty sure my clumsiness is why my foster sisters steal my toys because I usually end up wiping out a couple of times, but pop back up and continue my pursuit! I have mastered going up stairs, but we are working on coming down. Apparently, my foster mom can’t carry me forever… I don’t know why it’s such a big deal – I know I’m growing fast, but I cuddle and give kisses when she carries me, that’s a bonus right?
I am a pretty smart little dude…. I love to learn and can ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘paw’ and ‘down’. I am working on ‘gentle’, ‘leave it’ and ‘stay’ but those are a little tougher for me as I suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out). My foster sister is teaching me how to ring a bell at the back door to have the door opened, so I can go do my business… but I thought the cord was a perfect chew toy, so my foster mom had to fix it (Oooops!).
I am an excellent sleeper in my kennel at night – sometimes I scare my foster mom when I am so quiet (teehee). I do prefer my kennel to an x-pen when my foster mom leaves the house and am getting more comfortable in my kennel in the truck.
Overall, I am a sweet, fun, curious and energetic boy who loves learning and having new experiences. I would be so excited to find my forever family to share in adventures and make wonderful memories.
